REPRESSIONS WILL NOT CRUSH THE GREEK COMMUNISTS!

The Bureau of the Central Committee of the Leninist Komsomol of the Russian Federation strongly condemns the repressions unleashed by the Greek police against the peaceful demonstration organized by the Communist Party of Greece in Athens in honour of the day of the uprising of the students of the Polytechnic Institute.

The communist rally was organized with careful observance of sanitary measures, but the government of the right-wing New Democracy party banned the rally under the pretext of the COVID-19 epidemic. To the peaceful rally the police responded with groundless and unprovoked attacks, numerous arrests and injuries of demonstrators.

Despite the resistance of the police, the Greek communists still managed to hold a demonstration and a rally outside the walls of the US embassy.

On November 17, Greece marks the anniversary of the uprising of the students of the Polytechnic Institute. This event, supported by the workers and people of Athens, was one of the decisive events that led to the overthrow of the military junta that ruled in Greece with the support of the United States from 1967 to 1974. The revolt of the students of the Polytechnic Institute was the result of a long struggle of the Greek communists in the underground, while thousands of Communist Party and Communist Youth fighters were imprisoned, sent into exile and tortured by the barbaric regime of the junta.

The LCYU RF joins the demands of our Greek comrades for the immediate release of all detainees and punishment of all those guilty of unreasonable use of force against the activists of the Communist Party.
Repressions and police measures will never break the will of the communists to fight for quality healthcare, justice and decent work!

First Secretary of the Central Committee
of the Leninist Komsomol of the Russian Federation V.P. Isakov
